Happy New Year 2019, I took pictures of cows.
Happy 2019! Thanks for visiting my website, I’m blessed to have you!
DISCLAIMER: If you’re searching for a grammatically correct, Pulitzer prize worthy piece of literature you my friend are not in the right place and I bid you adieu. If you’re looking for a complete waste of your time with a few possibly funny areas (I mean, not to toot my own horn or anything) then you might have a chance to be entertained mildly.
For the first time in many years, I actually made a resolution that I plan on fully sticking to and it has nothing to do with losing weight. This is a huge step for me considering every year of my life I have been overweight. I just find that I’m probably always going to struggle with it somehow and I will probably never “keep it off”. Why the hell do I want to resolve to change it yet again? So this year’s resolution will focus on writing what you would call “a blog.”
I Googled the term blog just a few short seconds ago and it is defined as, “a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.” With that guideline in place I guess this is an actual blog as I regularly update this website (let’s all take a moment to laugh at that) and will more so if I write as often as I want to. Informal, conversational style? Hell yes, I can do that. In fact, that’s kind of perfect, right? We can just throw all the guidelines and “rules” out of the window, woohoo! You want a diary that goes in ten different places? I’m your girl.
I think I’m going to find at the beginning that this is going to be a major pain in the ass but hopefully it will give me the creative outlet I need. Let’s be honest here – I don’t get to take pictures as much as I want to for a multitude of reasons. First, I have a full-time, 8-5, Monday through Friday job (that I hate but that’s for a whole other blog). Second, I have a four year old little girl that keeps me on my toes when I am not at my said full-time, 8-5, Monday through Friday job. Third, I have a home to maintain – I’m just like any of you reading this with a home that needs to be cleaned occasionally (let’s take our second moment to laugh) and I probably need to shower every once in a while, too. Oh yeah, I should probably feed my four year old every once in a while, too. I guess what I’m trying to say here is I need to sing artistically in one form or another, and if I don’t have the time to take pictures AND edit them, maybe I can write about them or something else. Maybe you’ll find it entertaining, maybe you won’t and won’t ever be back. I’m sure we will both find out soon. Oh by the way – I ramble, often.
I guess I should get to something of substance by now, I’m already a few paragraphs in and haven’t really said anything with real meaning (welcome to my daily life). I guess I’ll talk about my yesterday, that’s a good start, right?
I got a wonderful macro lens for Christmas – it was something I’ve wanted for at least a year now. Granted, my knowledge in macro photography does not add up to much but it’s something I want to study and eventually decorate my house with – I will learn and get better. There are a few classes I want to take through Clickin’ Moms (Click school, etc.) that look awesome but I just can’t chalk up the extra cash to do it right now especially since I’m attending my first workshop in February (again, more on that at a later date).
So, I set out with my little one yesterday afternoon and only took my macro and 135mm lenses with me. I had no idea what kind of image I was going to take but since I started another 365 project I knew I had to take something - “something that defines me” but that’s all that I was given. I literally just started driving – down Buffalo Gap Road, turned onto Olhausen Road and just took my time looking at all the barren fields with the occasional hay bales. Side note – have you ever been down this road before? It’s so pretty! Granted, it’s private land but I bet it gets pretty gorgeous in the spring time – basically I’m saying I can look but I can’t touch. Willow and I drove slowly along this road for a few miles before I saw some cows and BAM! I knew that’s what I wanted to shoot today. I had never taken pictures of any animals before (besides some in the zoo) and was hoping I could get up close and personal to at least one on the side of the road but holy cow (…hahahaha) are they skittish! Every single one I came up to yesterday started walking away from me as soon as I approached and if they hadn’t already they darn sure did after I pressed my shutter button. Oh I also took some random pictures of cactus and weeds, too. Fun, Fun.
When I approached some cattle at the end of the road I knew what I wanted to do for my image of the day. One of them stayed behind a tree cautiously eyeing me and anytime I barely moved she looked like she was going to bolt. I tried taking pictures at many different angles but she just was not up for modeling and it was at that moment I knew she was my subject. She was my subject for multiple reasons:
I am constantly trying to hide.
I fear others.
I am, in a nutshell, a cow that needs to lose weight (this is supposed to make you laugh here guys, relax).
I hope this was at least mildly entertaining. I hope these improve on a number of levels as I continue to write – maybe I need to outline again to keep my ADHD ass on track I mean dear god how many times did I get derailed today? Lastly, I hope this isn’t the last I’ve seen of you!
Thank you for reading, leave a comment about what you resolve to improve on in 2019!
