Sunrise Couple's Session at 41 Creek Ranch in Abilene, TX

It’s seriously been such a wild season for multiple reasons. First, no horrible weather that’s caused cancellations – that’s unheard of! Every single weekend for as far back as I can remember this Fall we’ve been blessed with beautiful sunsets. Not to mention cooperative children and gorgeous attire! And just this week, right smack dab in the middle of December, we’re dealing with temps in the 50’s and 60’s. I don’t know if it’s global warming (no politics here) or just a streak of good luck for cold-hating Texans, y’all got lucky. REAL lucky. Y’all know it’s SUPPOSED to be cold in December, right? That gives us something to look forward to when Spring and Summer arrive. If it doesn’t get cold, how does that make any other part of the year amazing? Can you tell this is something near and dear to my heart? Put on your Ugg’s, put a scarf around your neck and smile!

Second, I finally got to have a session at sunrise! Brittany contacted me about a month ago asking for a mini session with me and my schedule was so jam packed I told her I only had sunrise sessions available. I just knew she’d tell me she’d have to pass but much to my amazement she didn’t blink an eye and scheduled that day! Now, to many people, this sounds cringeworthy but not to a photographer. One of my favorite things to do is to go on a road trip starting just before sunrise and watch those gorgeous colors change over the course of an hour. Colors of pink, red, purple, orange, and yellow are so rich and abundant in the morning it seems. Sunset is pretty, don’t get me wrong – but it doesn’t hold a candle to a sunrise.

That morning, as I backed out of my driveway at made the trek to 41 Creek, I felt really blessed. We had scattered clouds, but it was not overcast, giving the sky beautiful contrast and texture. I literally smiled the entire time I was driving.

Meeting Brittany and Banning was an absolute pleasure. It was super chilly and a tad windy, but she faced it courageously and we got some gorgeous images. Her husband was just the cutest thing ever and told us this was her birthday present – getting up early for a sunrise session, haha! What’s even funnier? Her birthday isn’t until January.

Part of photography isn’t just posing your couples, it’s watching for important details, too. Do y’all dance? No? Well you’re going to spin her today! Act like it’s freezing up here and you’re warming her hands with your breath (not too much of a prompt, honestly, it really was freezing). Come up behind her and bear hug her like you’re going to kidnap her. It doesn’t sound like these wouldn’t make good pictures, but we sure did all of these!

I have a ton of family sessions coming at your fast and furious this week so keep your eyes peeled! Coming from someone who is super busy let me take the time to tell you (and myself, again) to try and sit back and enjoy this time, especially if you have little ones. We often wait all year long for Christmas, but we get so darn busy that it goes by in a whirl and we don’t get to enjoy it. That’s your chore for the weekend – sit back and enjoy a Christmas activity!

Until next time!
